Conference on internet quality

June 18th University of Aalborg, University of <Stavanger, and University of Karlstad will arrange a conference in Copenhagen about Internet quality.

Place is Nokia building in Copenhagen, start 0830 and end 1600

Main contact is Michael Jensen at Aalborg University.

The conference is part of a common living lab project:

For a long period there has been an increasingly intense debate about current and future needs and requirements for broadband capacity in our society. How much bandwidth is required for now and in the future? What is needed to support the next generation killer applications and what exactly are they?

However, there are many other service parameters than bandwidth to consider in order to ensure an endto- end service quality of our networks. We are introducing new services and applications in our public administration, health care and industrial sector, and we see an increase in machine to machine communications. These services may have different requirements to latency, robustness and of course bandwidth. How can we make sure that the underlying infrastructure can support all these requirements?

Lately these quality parameters have been given a special attention in the EU. This conference will focus on how the different levels of internet quality may affect the user experience in different cases/scenarios from investigations conducted in resent research projects. We will also look into of current and new methods for measuring quality parameters on core as well as access networks. Measurements of Wireless as well as fixed access networks will be addressed. Finally we will introduce examples of network optimization techniques that address different quality parameters in broadband networks.

“Internet Quality” is one of the outcomes of a three year collaboration ship between industrial and research partners in Norway, Sweden and Denmark. The official project name is Collaborating Living Labs (COLL). The conference will be held and announced in association with Tele Technical Society - a trade group within IDA the Danish union of engineers. It will address regulators, ISP’s and everyone working within the field of telecom and internet technologies.

Spring 2012

After groningen, all partner have to set up local team with administration, first level controller etc.

Then, the main issue for coming months is to investigate which issues or ideas for transport improving the project will work with. There are already several options, some were sketched at the Groningen meeting.

Startup meeting in Groningen

We expect all partners to the iTract startup meeting in Groningen January 19-20th. All regions will present themselves, information on administrative issues will be presented, and plans for the work packages will be discussed and s.

Setting up site

The iTract web site is under  development. New here is the possibility to subscribe by RSS to the pages. You can do so by selecting the RSS badge.
